 Activities at the Lodge

A short walk from the lodge into the forest or wetland and you can sense what much of New Zealand was like before European settlement. Complimentary tours introduce the history and ecology at Paramata, typical of South Westland. Free canoeing, beach access and walking trails are also available to guests.
For an excursion of in-depth interpretation, guests can join a 3-5 hour Paramata wilderness tour. Touch the treasures of an ancient forest, glide by canoe along protected wetlands and explore the miles of remote sandy beach with your guide. The history and wildlife will unfold.
Eight different tour locations are available to suit special interests and fitness levels. A focus on birds of the forest, the wetlands and the sea coast is popular while three fishing rivers are within five kilometres. Paramata Lodge is the closest luxury accommodation to La Fontaine Stream.

Guided Wilderness Tours from Paramata Lodge

Itineraries for the Paramata guided wilderness tours include walking into untracked forests and along coastal wetlands or canoeing on a forest lake or flax-lined creeks. Gentle adventure walking along trails or more active options are available.
With a Department of Conservation concession, access to seldom travelled and protected conservation areas is possible. Your guide can highlight connections between history and ecology, birdlife and flora, unique plant properties and culture. Picnic lunch or snacks is provided from the lodge and there's plenty of time to relax and explore at leisure.
Guided wilderness tours and activities require prior bookings with a meeting arrangement the day before. Itineraries may be changed to accommodate the environment, weather conditions and personal preferences. Paramata Lodge tours comply with Health and Safety requirements.
