Your Hosts

Kathy Gilbert and Neil Ensor have built Paramata Lodge as an environmental sustainable venture. Sharing a love of the outdoors, the land and its history, they continue to study the area and willingly discuss their knowledge with guests.
Neil was born on the West Coast, worked in forestry and is a sculptor of wood, metal and found objects, exhibiting locally and in Auckland and Christchurch. His botanical knowledge and horticulture skills are invaluable and his artworks often add a touch of humour around the lodge.
Kathy comes from a Central European heritage. She travelled many parts of the world and lived in North America before returning to work in tertiary education. This included teaching New Zealand Treaty of Waitangi history and developing new course initiatives for the local polytechnic.
Phoebe is their little energetic part fox terrier dog and there are also two cats at Paramata Lodge.
